(Alliance Infantry Mobile
Training Facility, Lecture Hall a few days later) “Last time we talked about the battle of Hoth. I trust everyone has had ample time to practice the tactics from last time?” Solo noticed quite a few heads nodding in agreement. “The topic of today are the battles fought on Tatooine, shortly before the Yavin IV battles. Lord Vader ordered his troops to take control of the Dune Sea in the search for the droids that escaped the Tantive IV, which brought them into battle with the native sand people as well as alliance forces attempting to get hold of the droids as well. The imperial forces later tightened their grip on Mos Eisley space port as well, after the Millennium Falcon had blasted its way out of there. We begin by studying the battle of the Dune Sea. Alliance forces had landed both speeders and combat speeders as well as a small number of X-Wings, while the Imperials had commandeered sand skiffs in addition to their usual AT-ST’s and TIE fighters. The presence of the sand people complicates things as they will fire on everyone in their way, furthermore they are fierce fighters and relentless in their attacks. Our tactic is therefore to stay away from them as much as possible. You might want to note that the alliance was defeated on Tatooine, both across the Dune Sea and later in Mos Eisley. We analyzed the scenario carefully and Spook came up with an alternative that might give you an edge enough to win the day. Take it away Spook!” Hank “Spook” Chiu gathered his notes before addressing the audience. “Hi everyone! Ok, this is what I’ve come up with. You should start in the landing area up north, grab one of the combat speeders and order a teammate to take the gunner seat. By using a speeder you can move across the dunes fairly unharmed by the various hazards along the way. Your objective is to reach the Jawa sandcrawler and take control of it (the Empire is holding it at this time). Go down the middle, and pass by the Sarlacc pit (don’t get tugged in!), blasting your way through sand people and stormtroopers. The combat speeder is equipped with a dual missile launcher, use it together with the blaster cannons for a devastating effect. Once you reach the sandcrawler, exit the vehicle and take control of the imperial command post. You might want to hang back a while and fight off any counter-attack. Once you feel confident about holding the position launch an assault on the main imperial staging area. If the combat speeder is still available use it to take out any fortified positions, gun emplacements or even AT-ST’s. If you have additional support they will go down quickly under combined missile and blaster fire. Continue to attack the imperial position and make sure you hold the sandcrawler, by doing this your side can avoid much of the cross-fire from the sand people and can also find some cover from the rocky outcroppings during their approach to the target. Keep up the pressure and victory should be yours!”
Spook stepped down and Solo once again approached the lectern. “The next battle takes place inside Mos Eisley, and as a former privateer I have frequently visited both the port and the infamous Cantina. During this battle the stormtroopers were joined by Darth Vader himself, which led to the alliance defeat. You want to start in the Cantina and head out the south entrance and turn eastward traveling along the south edge of the map. Stormtroopers will appear in front of you shortly, so don’t stand still and try to take them out as soon as they appear. Beware of cross-fire from the left as you cross intersections, and of suddenly appearing Dark Troopers that can drop down on you at any time. Your objective is the southernmost imperial command post situated in a courtyard in the southeast. Take control of it and continue north towards the next command post. This one is located in a tight area with narrow alleys and small courtyards, watch out for ambushes as you enter! Once this command post is under alliance control, head out again. Fighting should be fierce at this point, especially around the imperial command post just north of you (NE corner). This position is heavily defended with blaster cannons, and rather than trying to storm those head on, cross the street (while lobbing a few grenades to help out your team mates) and do a sweep of the city. In case some alliance held position has fallen into the hands of the Empire, go there and take it back. After taking out wandering stormtroopers, head north and take on the uppermost imperial command post, flanking them by approaching it from the west instead of from the south. You will find this approach much easier, and the imperials will be cornered and soon defeated.”
