Mineracing
isn't as difficult as it seems. Most people panic the first time they
play this mission. However after a little practice, this will be the
easiest of all the missions.
Your
first step is to setup your X-Wing's systems for the mission. If you
have a programmable joystick you should program the following sequence
into one of your buttons: c x w x t F9 ' ' ' ' ' backspace. If you
don't have a programmable joystick you must execute the sequence manually
as exactly typed in the previous sentence. Try typing it while the
mission is loading so you won't use too much mission time typing in
the sequence.
After
you configure your ship you are now ready to go. One of the transports
will be targeted and you will have dual torpedoes selected. Put the
target bead on the transport and fire after you hear 5 beeps, do not
wait until the sight is red. After you fire the torps, quickly press
"t" and the second transport will be targeted. Five beeps
on this transport will sometimes be good enough, but I recommend six
since the torps usually have to make a sharp turn.
You
can now begin the real part of mineracing. Change your weapon to lasers
and start with the top mine of the column on the far right and destroy
all the mines in that column working from top to bottom. Next go to
the column that is behind the one you just destroyed. Destroy this
column by starting from the bottom and working your way up.
Next
go to the column directly to the left and start from the top and work
your way down. When you destroy the last mine in that column kill
your throttle while you are turning to the last column of mines. Then
just finish off the last column working from bottom to top. Now turn
towards the sats and by cutting your throttle off when mentioned will
ensure that you don't fly by any sats and there by losing valuable
seconds.
Other
tips for this is in the options screen set starfighter detail to the
lowest setting, turn off debris and make the starfield low detail.
This will make the mines appear bigger and less clutter will make
them easier to see. Also make sure that you reset shields as needed.
If you keep moving, the lasers won't hit you very much, but it can
be frustrating to be doing well and get killed by the mines.
However
the three most important things to mineracing is practice, practice
and practice. Do your best to destroy the mines on the first shot,
try to move as quickly as possible from mine to mine. A trick to getting
a better time is to fire at each mine and immediately proceed to the
next one and not wait to watch the previous explode. Destroying some
or all of the sats after the first column can also knock off lots
of time as well. This can be easily done if you destroy the first
column of mines while you are a good distance from them.
Good
luck to all pilots and happy mineracing.
